This book is completely out of date. In skimming a few pages, says canola and low fat is the only way to go. No evidence to prove GMO's are bad. Organic not required. Very disappointed.

My brother was diagnosed with cancer and this is one of the books that he was given as a resource. Out of curiosity and with an eye to making positive changes in my lifestyle I bought a copy too. This book does a good job of sharing personal experiences and relating fact and advice. The author's personal success in extending his life well beyond expectation has given me hope for my brother's situation and I have a greater appreciation of his situation and his efforts to remain healthy.

This is a beautiful book. And therein lies the problem. It's so "pretty," it's hard to read.PROS: The author intersperses information and recipes with encouraging words gleaned from her own journey and ultimate victory over the C-word. It's beautiful, with glossy, full-color pages in bright, eye-pleasing shades; plenty of pictures. The pages themselves look appetizing.CON: Readability is challenging. Overuse of italics, sometimes faint ink colors, and somewhat small fonts make reading slower than normal and a bit laborious. Examples:Reviews/Testimonials are printed in light gray ink on glossy white page, with only contributors' names in black ink. I had to focus and look really hard in order to read reviewers' comments.Many, if not most, pages were done in reverse-print - Usually color page background with light-color ink. A gold-colored page would have lighter gold or yellow print; dark-green page would have light-green print. Gorgeous, but no fun to read. Just imagine reading full pages of white text against black or dark-gray background. In some instances, print was darker but still still in color rather than black, so print was still somewhat eclipsed by page color.I wanted so much to like this book. I met the author and she's a charming, intelligent, good-humored lady dedicated to helping others. I take no pleasure in leaving a not-so-good review. I wish her tremendous success that will one day call for a second edition. Should second edition come out, in a more readable format, I'll be the first in line to get it. Unfortunately, I had to send this book back. Twenty dollars is too much to spend on a book I must strain to read.For anyone not bothered by the graphics layout, this is probably a very good book. My suggestion, if doable: First check out the book at whatever brick-and-mortar bookstore you can find. It it agrees with your eyes, great. If not, you'll save yourself the $4.95 I had to pay in return postage.

This really is a wonderful book. Not only is it a cookbook, but it reads at times like an incredible and inspiring personal story. Sometimes it feels like the author is sitting in the room talking with you about what she's learned and how it has changed her life. I am fortunate to say that I haven't had to face a cancer diagnosis, but my mother was felled by cancer and my father has been successfully (thank god) treated for it as well. Faced with those facts it only makes sense to do anything in my power to ward off this devastating disease. Gaining control over the food on my plate is of prime importance. I can't say that I've tried every recipe in the book but I've made quite a few of them and can certainly say that both my husband and I have enjoyed the meals greatly. And what a relief to consistently see ingredients that I can easily find at my local grocery store! That is such a plus. I'm looking forward to eating more of these delicious recipes.

The book is beautiful and the recipes are wonderful. This cookbook was written by talented woman who survived a very life threatening cancer. I bought it but was somewhat concerned that there would be foods I wouldn't like or complicated recipes. Neither of these things are the case. The recipes are easy to follow, easy to assemble and delicious. I have tried several at this point, but believe I will sample almost everything in the cookbook in the future. I am a cancer survivor also and encourage anyone interested in a more healthy diet to buy this book for yourself or give it as a gift. It is fabulous and Pam's personal story is outlined within. She has multiple endorsements from doctors and diet experts. This is a must-buy!!!!

I love the concept of the book and all the wonderful information. This book gives me the recipes to go along with Servan-Schreiber's Anti-Cancer and Beliveau and Gingras's Foods to Fight Cancer. It ties it all together. It gives me delicious, tasty, easy to prepare recipes and tells me about their cancer fighting properties. I am a cancer survivor, but this book is for everyone.

Wanted a book based on healthy meals since many people I know have had or died from cancer. I know this can't prevent me from getting cancer, but it may help.

The black ink was grey. I couldn't read the recipes. The pages with pictures had nice black ink but the recipes and the index in back wasn't legible. I returned it.The author contacted me to offer a free copy of the cookbook.Thanks Pam Braun!

Quentin R. Skrabec, Jr. has published over fifty articles on history, industrial history and business, and five books on the late 1800s and American business. His most recent biography was George Westinghouse (Algora 2006). Holding a PhD in Manufacturing Management (Univ. of Toledo), he has taught as an adjunct professor at Toledo, the University of Akron, University of Pittsburgh, and Robert Morris University. In his management career, Dr. Skrabec has served as a manager and vice president at LSE/LTV Steel, Jessop and National Steel. He led LSE/LTV to 33 MagazineThis biography, focused on McKinley 's unusual view of protectionism, a labor-business alliance, and American exceptionalism, offers striking parallels to today as the US struggles to define its international role and to determine the best blend of free trade, protectionism, and immigration. William McKinley was the first US president to address globalization; his legacy in protectionism and immigrant labor offer lessons for the current era. He orchestrated an alliance between big business and the American worker that ushered in one of the greatest periods of growth ever known in the US economy. Yet McKinley has been in the shadow of his successor Theodore Roosevelt for over a hundred years. It invites the product of foreign cheap labor to this market in competition with the domestic, representing better paid labor [albeit with tariffs to protect that domestic product]. McKinley s vision built the industrial base of the nation. By the end of his presidency the American steel, glass, rubber, oil, machinery and electrical appliance industries dominated the world. He was one of America s most popular presidents. As his funeral train crossed the nation in 1901, factory workers and captains of industry alike stood along the rails to mourn him. Never since has such a political alliance between labor and management been forged. He was the last president to build a voting alliance between laborers, immigrant workers, and capitalists. That alliance was marred by famous labor strikes and the building of great trusts, yet he still managed to sweep the labor votes in the great industrial centers due to his belief in reciprocity and protectionism. McKinley 's role as a dinner pail Republican offers insights into how America can approach today 's globalization with the best interests of the home team in mind.s "manufacturing company of the year" and to Tom Peters' "100 Best-Managed Companies" list. David Damrosch is Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. He is a past president of the American Comparative Literature Association, and has written widely on world literature from antiquity to the present. His books include What Is World Literature? Audre Lorde is one of my favorite writers and I have read Sister Outsider many, many times. Zami is not the right way to be introduced to Lorde in my opinion, but for fans of Lorde I think it provides a TON of context to her writing to understand her childhood and young adult environment and how she grew up and started coming to consciousness. I was surprised that the book ended with her still in her early 20s, before she really became a writer. Parts of the book were definitely slow for me - compared to her compact, highly charged essays where every sentence packs a punch, the writing here in many places is languid...not in a bad way, but very different. While not my favorite work by her, I'm really glad that I read it and am excited to go back and read her essays and understand where she is coming from in a new light.

Audre Lorde's Zami is a classic! Zami offers a moving and powerful narratives a young, queer, black woman growing up in New York. This type of identity-aware and critical literature is scarce today and even more so for its time. As a result, Zami is a must read for those exploring the role of race, class, gender and sexual orientation in American life, with many relevant parallels to today's cultural conflict and life.

I am not gay, and knew little of the NY life, gay or straight ,before the 1950s, so the book was a revelation for me. Explicit depictions of lesbian lovemaking, even when poetic, were disturbing for me.. Sometimes.the novel was boring, with too many characters and detail, easily forgotten. I would have liked more poetry. However, it was of interest as an unusual coming of age story by a woman who learns to accept herself despite being an outsider in many ways.

I was a little lost in all the white ladies who made appearances and then never returned to the page, but otherwise it is such a perfect biography of longing. If there are two writers you ever read from the 20th century, make it James Baldwin and Audre Lorde.

This memoir blew me away. Audre Lorde writes poetically, and captures your attention right away. She doesn't shy away from the racism and queermisia that happened in her life while she was growing up as a Black lesbian woman in New York. But I could really connect with Audre, and I already know I will be re-reading Zami in the future.

I read this book for my Women Novelist class where we are focusing on Lesbian Fiction. First off, I was sad that I wasn't exposed to Audre Lorde before because none of my previous classes talk about Lesbian Fiction at all.I loved it. Partly because I could relate to Audre's culture and the other part is I can relate how it's like to be the different person trying to fit into a world you don't see much of "you" in. Let me tell you, if you are not an English major, you will read this novel as strange. You can't just read it for what it is! Try to analyze it. Don't take it all for the the meaning of the words on the page.It was well written and I loved the seeing how even in Audre's indifference to her surroundings she found a place she really did fit in. It also made me very interested in reading more of her work.

Heartbreaking and strength in a coming of age story. Beautiful writing.
