About the Author

Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was born in Helsinki and spent much of her life in Finland. She is the author of the Moomin books, including Comet in Moominland and Finn Family Moomintroll. Born into an artistic family―her father was a sculptor and her mother was a graphic designer and illustrator―Jansson studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, and L'École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In addition to her Moomin books, she also wrote several novels, drew comic strips and worked as a painter and illustrator. In 1966, she was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for her body of work. Jansson had a studio in Helsinki but spent most of her time at her home on a small island called Klovharu.

tove jansson is the best

Moomin is one of the most brilliant, quirky, funny and thoughtful comic strips ever made. Cleverly drawn, highly imaginative writing. Of Swedish origin myself I was lucky enough to grow up with Moomin, and also to find a complete set of the original 10 Moomin books (in Swedish) many years ago. I have always loved the characters, their adventures, interesting philosophies and opinions, and interpretations of the world, etc. I am very happy that these books (the first two at least) are finally re-issued in English so my kids can read them, and the rest of the US. Highly recommended to both young and old. Please buy the first and second book, so the publisher releases the other 8 books too.

Moomins are terrific characters for children.

I read these whimsical, carefully cafted comicstrips as a kid, way back in the seventies in the Dutch newspaper "De Volkskrant" and the strange atmosphere intrigued me. Drawn in a very distinctive, clear line, the stories leasurely meander through the loose plots. Reading Moomin brings you in a relaxed state of mind. Read a story every night before bedtime and you're guaranteed to have pleasant dreams.

My daughter and I read these together, beautiful book and the content is amazing.

My granfchildren have become adept to these Finish-Swedish stories. But so my son became and addict when he was little, too!

Wonderful, so imaginative and funny like all of the other Moomin comics and books I have read. The kids love them.

I have read every Moomin book available in English and I loved them all. I decided to get the comic for some children I know. I actually have not read the comic and my review is concerned only with the physical properties of the publication.I have to say that the book look beautiful and makes a perfect gift. I will order second copy now so I can read it myself. :)
